Right off the bat, we want to say THANK YOU for helping your Drama Kid film their at-home scenes! We know you weren't anticipating adding "movie director" to your list of new jobs, and we are eternally grateful for your help in making this happen! The great news is that the majority of the coaching for these at-home scenes will be done in class itself! This is why we are asking that all at-home film assignments be completed the night before your Drama Kid's next scheduled class. This way our coaching will still be fresh, which means less takes and avoiding a mad scramble for shots in mid-June! *Furthermore, if your Drama Kid would like to re-shoot any of their in-class Zoom footage at home, they are more than welcome! Perhaps they weren't happy with a take, or there were some technical difficulties. Send us any reshoots and our editors will pick the best shot for the film! So, what is a shot list? And how do you decipher it? Don't stress! Our goal is to make your at-home filming as simple as possible, and the shot list will be your guide! A shot list is a document that maps out everything that will happen in a scene of a film by describing each shot within that film. It serves as a kind of checklist, providing everyone with a sense of direction, preparedness, and piece of mind that everyone is accounted for! As you can see, our shot lists are divided into 8 columns...
Deciphering the action and storyboardsOkay, so what on earth does "MEDIUM WIDE" mean? Have no fear! Check out our mini camera-shot glossary below! And don't stress about getting it exactly right. Here's something we teach our Film Academy students: do what YOU think looks good! Still have questions? Don't be afraid to ask! Feel free to email our editors with filmmaking questions:
