SPRING PERFORMANCE WEEKEND AT THE EGG: JUNE 8 - 11, 2023 Spring Performance Weekend at the EggJune 8 - 11, 2023 Need a reminder of your child's performance time at the Egg? CLICK HERE to view our complete schedule of our June performances, including call times. ADMISSION IS FREE for all of your guests! "BEAUTY & THE BEAST" COSTUME SUGGESTIONSEXPRESS YOURSELF! We encourage our Drama Kids to bring their character alive with their own personal touch! That said, please do not go to any great expense for their costumes. Their performance is what will make them shine onstage - not the costume! Please feel free to use old clothing/Halloween costumes, thrift stores, dollar stores, and party stores to help complete your looks. Or reach out to your Facebook friends! You'd be surprised how many are happy to loan or give away old costumes. We have compiled a list of detailed costume suggestions per character, so click on the image below to read more! There you will find exactly what we will be providing and what you will need to supplement in order to complete each look. At the end of that document you will find links to some of the items pictured to purchase on Amazon or to further your search for inspiration. Remember, these are suggestions and guidelines. Don't be afraid to get creative! And don't be afraid to DIY!!! Home "work"Practice makes proud performers!
Don't forget that we've compiled a library of video demos of the songs & dances we are learning in class. This will be a great resource in case your Drama Kid has to miss class, or would just like some extra practice at home! What with an uptick in colds and Spring conflicts, it's understandable that kids will have to miss a few classes. We get it! We'll be able to catch them up in class no problem, if...and ONLY IF...they do a little extra homework that week to keep everything fresh. (That way they can absorb all of the awesome tips we have to teach them in class!) Here is a collection of more resources to help our students practice with at home:
We will upload videos weekly to the Google Drive once they've been recorded in class, so keep checking back. And of course, if you or your Drama Kid have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. That's what we're here for! COSTUME SUGGESTIONSYou have been eagerly awaiting guidance regarding costumes, and we have some good news for you, parents! We wanted to make things as easy for you as possible, and so, we will be making color-coordinated tunics and collars for our entire cast! We loved the uniformity of the colored tunics in the YouTube video we shared with you, but instead of asking each of you to make your own, we thought it would be easiest to do the leg work for you. :) As you see in the picture above, our royals will be in blue, purple, red & white tunics, while our street urchins will be in light & dark brown ones. Each group will have their own special colored tunic with a collar & belt to go with it. So, what do our Drama Kids need to provide?
We'll handle the rest!!! HOME "WORK"Practice makes proud performers!

Click Here to View Directions & Parking Info
Please note: Putting “The Egg” or “Empire State Plaza” into GPS, Google Maps or other mapping systems will not bring you to the accessible parking area for The Egg.
The GPS Coordinates for the parking area are N 42.650674, W 73.760061
We recommend parking in the V-LOT (Visitor's Lot) Located beneath the Empire State Plaza and accessed through I-787 Empire State Plaza exit. Visitors may be required to show photo identification upon entry and all vehicles are subject to search by the State Police. This lot has designated accessible parking spaces.
Therefore each family will be responsible for paying a modest $50 Ticketing Fee. This fee is per FAMILY, not per person, and will cover ALL of the guests that you bring to the performance. This way, we will not charge admission to your guests, AND there is no need to RSVP for tickets. We have plenty of space, so the more, the merrier!
For those set up on the monthly tuition plan, your credit card will automatically be charged this additional fee on June 1. For those that have pre-paid for the year, you can pay cash, check or charge...or with DRAMA BUCKS! :D We prefer receiving payment at class, but we will collect any unpaid performance fees at the Egg, the day of the performance (at the T-shirt table in the lobby).
"NOT-SO-PROFESSIONAL" VIDEOS
PLEASE NOTE: We are no longer producing physical DVD copies of the performances. Only digital copies will be made available to you, at no additional charge!
Believe it or not, it doesn't take much time! We highly recommend 5-10 minutes every day...tops! The key is doing a small amount EVERY day. Cramming it in right before class (or right before the performance - ahhhhh!) won't do you any good. The best way to ingrain it in your long-term memory is to rehearse daily. But again, it doesn't take much! I recommend making it a part of your daily routine: eating breakfast, right before bed, in the car, during study halls...or even in the bathroom! ;)
We get a lot accomplished in just 2-3 hours, and if our students don't practice what they've learned each night throughout the week, they simply don't retain the information for the next class. This causes us to have to go back and re-teach parts of the play rather than polishing scenes and moving forward. Not only is it detrimental to the rehearsal process, it's also quite frustrating for the other actors as well. Remember - our plays are not about one character shining on the stage. Our plays are a total team effort! The strength of our ensemble relies on the dedication and enthusiasm of our players. Think of our rehearsals as a team-sport practice. On a team you want each player to be able to trust each other and work together. If someone isn't doing well, they are expected to practice to improve their skills so they can play the game to the best of their abilities. The same principles apply to drama as well!
That being said... are we expecting perfection? Nope! We know mistakes happen - heck, us teachers even flub onstage from time to time! However, we sincerely believe that practicing a few minutes every night will allow our Drama Kids to feel more comfortable on stage, even in the event of a mistake or a missed line. If they put in the effort now, they will have much more FUN at the performance!
So how can you help prepare your Drama Kid for the big day? Read our tips below to help you get the most out of your rehearsal time!
- Don't over-work them! Rehearsing for a few minutes a day is much more beneficial than rehearsing for a big chunk of time the night before class.
- Be sure you read their cue lines! A cue line is the line right before their own. They not only need to know their lines, but WHEN to say them! (It's also beneficial to read a few lines BEFORE their cues as well, so they really know when to be on alert!)
- Make sure your child is projecting their voice! If they practice their lines quietly at home, they won't be a powerhouse at the Egg. We want everyone to hear them, even those at the back of the house!
- Make sure your child is also practicing their movements and character as they say their lines! Ask your Drama Kid how their character stands, sits, gestures, and if they have any dances they should be practicing as well! Muscle memory is very important in the rehearsal process!
- Sometimes writing lines down on a piece of paper helps children memorize faster!
- And of course - repetition, repetition, repetition! :)
