FIND A GOOD LOCATION: You will want to film in front of a plain background, for example a wall with no frames, or distractions. Make sure there are no loud background noises. FIND YOUR LIGHT: Make sure the location you’ve chosen to film has even, bright, filtered light. When filming, we recommend finding a bright window and film FACING YOUR WINDOW, with your device in between you and the window so the light is hitting your face. Or if you have a ring light that is perfectly acceptable as well. Check out the video for more tips on how to get creative with lighting! The main goal is to have nice natural lighting on your face, try to reduce the shadows that fall on your face. FILM HORIZONTAL: Film with your camera HORIZONTALLY, (with the longest part of the phone flat, like a table). No portrait modes please! QUIET ON THE SET: Do you have a noisy sibling? A dog that loves to bark at squirrels? Try to find a quiet room in the house to film in to avoid any possible distractions! DON'T RUSH: Take your time! Most people's natural tendency is to RUSH through your lines. Resist the urge!!! This is your chance to shine, so take your time and soak up every moment of the spotlight! STABILIZE YOUR CAMERA: If you have a phone tripod that’s awesome! Otherwise, parents should try to hold the camera as still as possible. If your Drama Kid is filming on their own without a parent, placing it on a stable surface propped up against something with weight and height will work too (Example, a full water bottle). Tape can also help! We recommend you film yourself from the waist up, so we can clearly see any movements and facial expressions. SLATE YOUR SHOT: Before the take, say your first name and what you will be singing, so we know what role you may be auditioning for. PROJECT: Just because you’re at home doesn’t mean you don’t need to PROJECT, SING YOUR HEART OUT, OR PLAY WITH PASSION. Whatever amazing art form you’re creating, give it your all so the audience connects and wants to watch MORE! CHECK YOUR TAKE: Look at the take clips before you send it off to us. You will be able to upload the video to this Google Drive: DKI GUYS & DOLLS AUDITION SUBMISSION Please Name your file ‘First Name_Last Name’ (i.e. Sally_Jones.mp4 or Robert_Stevenson.mov) HAVE FUN!!!: The more fun you have with your line, the more dramatic and effective it will be to the audience! Allow yourself to play, have fun, and let things surprise you!
