Greetings Acting Academy! What an exciting week revealing our cast of characters for Law & Order: Nursery Crime Unit! We hope your Drama Kid was as excited about their role as we are to see them bring it to life! We firmly believe that EVERY part is important - a concept that we strive to instill in our students, as well! Please help us encourage your child by reinforcing that there are NO small parts and that every actor is crucial to the show! Rest assured, most characters are simply a starting point to spark our students’ creative interpretations. HOME "WORK" Practice makes proud performers! Practicing at home is a must. Students received their script last class. The key is to start memorizing right away. Don’t wait and cram! Make it a part of your daily routine, so that it isn’t forgotten. These are important study habits that we aim to instill in our Drama Kids, not only to make them better performers, but overall better learners. Plus, when you have your lines memorized it makes learning stage movement and adding in all the character-coaching we do in class so much easier, and more fun! (CLICK HERE for more practice tips from Drama Mama!) Students are expected to bring their script and a pencil to class each week. This way they can make notes right there on the page where they won’t forget it. Oh, and in case a copy of their script goes missing, here’s an electronic version of it: Attachment: !Law and Order_ Nursery Rhyme Unit (Script).pdf (3.0MB) New to Drama Kids? CLICK HERE to learn more about the "method behind our madness" when it comes to rehearsing for our final performance! COSTUMES Express yourself! We encourage our Drama Kids to bring their character alive with their own personal touch! That said, please do not go to any great expense for this costume. Their performance is what will make them shine onstage - not the costume! All Drama Kids costumes should cost little to no money to make. Old clothing/Halloween costumes, thrift stores, dollar stores and party stores are great places to check out. Or reach out to your Facebook friends! You'd be surprised how many are happy to loan or give away old pirate or mermaid costumes. We provide the props and main signature pieces and whatever else we can for each child's costume. Your child's teacher will also have specific details on what we have on hand. Please refer to the suggestions below for more details. If you have questions, please don't hesitate our Artistic Director, Jillian Becker ([email protected]) LAW (LAWYERS & JUDGE) Look official and dress sharp! Dress pants, button down shirts, pencil skirts, etc. ORDER (DETECTIVES) Trench-coats, pea-coats, fedoras, button down shirts, ties - think classic, stereotypical detective! SUSPECTS (NURSERY RHYME CHARACTERS) These are MODERN interpretations of Nursery Rhyme Characters - so no need to go out and buy a bonnet for Little Bo Peep! We encourage our students to get creative with their character design choices. Maybe Little Boy Blue wears blue Crocs, maybe Mother Goose has a feather boa, or perhaps Jack Sprat the health nut wears gym shorts! Seriously, how fun does this all sound? We are soooooo incredibly excited and hope your Drama Kid is, too! Parents, thank you in advance for all your support. YOU ROCK!!!

"Welcome to STORYLAND IDOL" Colonie Creative Dramatics! What a magical few weeks we've had, revealing our dramatic cast of characters and diving into the beginning of our scripts! We hope your Drama Kid was as excited about their role as we are to see them bring it to life! We firmly believe that EVERY part is important - a concept that we strive to instill in your child, as well! Please help us encourage your child by reinforcing that there are NO small parts and that every actor is crucial to the show! That said, if there is anything about your child’s character that is rubbing them the wrong way, please do not hesitate to let us know. We try very hard to fit each child with a role that they are comfortable with, but often there can be part of a character description that they don’t understand or even like. Rest assured, that can be tweaked, as most characters are simply a starting point to spark our students’ creative interpretations! HOME "WORK" Practice makes proud performers! Practicing at home is a must. Students received PART 1 of their script for additional practice at home. As we explained to them in class, the lines are not yet assigned for Part 2. Instead, we give students a chance to earn new lines by participating actively in class and practicing consistently at home. (Plus, we love building the suspense!) This makes the task of learning lines a lot less overwhelming, but never fear…practicing can be easy (dare I say…fun?). Rehearsing lines should NOT take a lot of time. Each student currently only has about 8 lines – not a lot, right? So, we recommend 5-10 minutes once a night, or every other night. (Think about it…that’s nothing!) You could run lines with them while eating breakfast, right before bed, in the car…or hey…even in the bathroom! The key is making it a part of your routine, so that it isn’t forgotten. These are important study habits that we aim to instill in our Drama Kids, not only to make them better performers, but overall better learners! (CLICK HERE for more practice tips from Drama Mama!) Students are NOT expected to bring their script back and forth to class each week. We will be coaching them verbally and teaching them tricks to aid in memorization. Oh, and in case a copy of their script goes missing, here’s a link to it: >>>LINK TO OUR STORYLAND IDOL SCRIPTS!<<< We will be adding pages to our script as the weeks go by in the Google Drive, so please check back periodically! Two hours is a LOT of time to be rehearsing without a drink! Be sure you send your Drama Kid to rehearsal hydrated and with a water bottle so they can take some well-earned water breaks! COSTUMES Express yourself! We encourage our Drama Kids to bring their character to life with their own personal touch! That said, please do not go to any great expense for this costume. Their performance is what will make them shine onstage - not the costume! All Drama Kids costumes should cost little to no money to make. Your child's teacher will also have specific details on what we have on hand. Please refer to the suggestions below for more details. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to contact your child's teacher: Drama Mama ([email protected]) Your child's costume should resemble their fairytale character, but can also reflect their modern "attitude" in the show (i.e. Jack would actually wear a business suit, as opposed to the traditional Jack & the Beanstalk look). Please ask us if you need some help with costume ideas!
***We have purchased a "monster" hat & vest, Queen of Hearts crown, Mackie Mouse ears & gloves, fairy wings & wand, and various other unique props & accessories. We will keep you up to date as our collection grows! Your child may borrow these for the performance. Want to save the hassle and buy online? We personally love aliexpress.com for costumes at cheaper wholesale prices. And of course Amazon & Ebay are great options too! Need something in a pinch? The costumer in Schenectady is our favorite local costume & prop place: thecostumer.com Seriously, how fun does this all sound? We are soooooo incredibly excited and hope your Drama Kid is, too! Parents, thank you in advance for all your support. YOU ROCK!!! |
