Greetings Acting Academy! What an exciting week revealing our cast of characters for Law & Order: Nursery Crime Unit! We hope your Drama Kid was as excited about their role as we are to see them bring it to life! We firmly believe that EVERY part is important - a concept that we strive to instill in our students, as well! Please help us encourage your child by reinforcing that there are NO small parts and that every actor is crucial to the show! Rest assured, most characters are simply a starting point to spark our students’ creative interpretations. HOME "WORK" Practice makes proud performers! Practicing at home is a must. Students received their script last class. The key is to start memorizing right away. Don’t wait and cram! Make it a part of your daily routine, so that it isn’t forgotten. These are important study habits that we aim to instill in our Drama Kids, not only to make them better performers, but overall better learners. Plus, when you have your lines memorized it makes learning stage movement and adding in all the character-coaching we do in class so much easier, and more fun! (CLICK HERE for more practice tips from Drama Mama!) Students are expected to bring their script and a pencil to class each week. This way they can make notes right there on the page where they won’t forget it. Oh, and in case a copy of their script goes missing, here’s an electronic version of it: Attachment: !Law and Order_ Nursery Rhyme Unit (Script).pdf (3.0MB) New to Drama Kids? We encourage our Drama Kids to bring their character alive with their own personal touch! That said, please do not go to any great expense for this costume. Their performance is what will make them shine onstage - not the costume! All Drama Kids costumes should cost little to no money to make. Old clothing/Halloween costumes, thrift stores, dollar stores and party stores are great places to check out. Or reach out to your Facebook friends! You'd be surprised how many are happy to loan or give away old pirate or mermaid costumes. We provide the props and main signature pieces and whatever else we can for each child's costume. Your child's teacher will also have specific details on what we have on hand. Please refer to the suggestions below for more details. If you have questions, please don't hesitate our Artistic Director, Jillian Becker ([email protected]) LAW (LAWYERS & JUDGE) Look official and dress sharp! Dress pants, button down shirts, pencil skirts, etc. ORDER (DETECTIVES) Trench-coats, pea-coats, fedoras, button down shirts, ties - think classic, stereotypical detective! SUSPECTS (NURSERY RHYME CHARACTERS) These are MODERN interpretations of Nursery Rhyme Characters - so no need to go out and buy a bonnet for Little Bo Peep! We encourage our students to get creative with their character design choices. Maybe Little Boy Blue wears blue Crocs, maybe Mother Goose has a feather boa, or perhaps Jack Sprat the health nut wears gym shorts! Seriously, how fun does this all sound? We are soooooo incredibly excited and hope your Drama Kid is, too! Parents, thank you in advance for all your support. YOU ROCK!!!
