Student Intern & Teacher Apprentice Trainer Shirley is excited to work with Drama Kids and hopes that her love and respect for musical theatre inspires the students! Her favorite saying is: “Without the Performing Arts, we live in black and white. With them, it’s a Technicolor world!!” BiographyShirley has devoted her entire adult life to teaching and to musical theatre! She retired from the Albany City School District in 2002 to continue establishing the Park Playhouse Youth Theatre which began in 1995. She recently retired from Park Playhouse to pursue independent projects, but her association with Park Playhouse began in 1993 as an actor in the mainstage productions of KISS ME KATE (Hattie), BRIGADOON (Matron McPherson), DAMN YANKEES (Sister), and GYPSY (Mazeppa). She also performed in the the Park Playhouse Lyrics and Lyricists Series and in various other musical theater productions and charitable events in the area. In addition to heading up the summer youth theatre, Ms. Shirley was instrumental in starting the Park Playhouse Kids After-School Program that began in 2006 within the Albany City Schools and continues to this day in various school districts in the region and grew to be a summer program that most recently performed “Disney’s The Lion King Jr” at Cohoes Musical Hall. The Park Playhouse Scholastic Touring Program was another of her projects that has expanded and has reached thousands of students. Many of her students have gone on to pursue remarkable careers in teaching, the law, theatre, etc. In fact, your “Drama Mama”, Deanna Stickles-Bach, is one of those amazing students who is now giving Ms. Shirley the opportunity to work on the program she has so successfully grown and developed alongside her and her incredible staff with Drama Kids! She considers her greatest achievement to be her 48-year marriage to Richard and being the proud mother of Jeffrey and Darcy and “grammie” to Brady! Ms. Shirley's Photo Gallery
