Students MUST report NO LATER THAN their call time (see times here) for a final (and only!) dress rehearsal upon the stage. For double performances, the older class rehearses FIRST on the stage, two hours prior to showtime. The younger class rehearses second, one hour prior to showtime. ONLY ONE PARENT is allowed to accompany your child into the theatre to chaperone during this time!
Word of advice: It works best if only one parent brings the student to the rehearsal, with the rest of the family/friends arriving just prior to performance time. (Guests are usually not happy to stand and wait a full hour in a cramped room for the show to start!) That ONE parent can have a seat in the auditorium and even save seats for your guests. That way...no need to stress. We also recommend bringing some light snacks, as food is not easily accessible at the Egg. Students must arrive in costume & make-up. They will NOT have time to get into their full costume prior to rehearsing. It is recommended that your child wear simple makeup, as the stage lights can wash out their features. Note that this is completely optional. If your child is not comfortable wearing makeup, that's A-OK! We want them to be comfortable on the day of their performance - that's priority #1! ***To our "Tut, Tut" stars, Miss Sierra has offered to apply Egyptian cat eye make-up at the Egg, however, you must plan to arrive at least 20 min prior to their rehearsal time for that to be done in time. And parents... PLEASE...DO NOT BE LATE!!! Take a look at our performance schedule here - we are booked back to back all weekend long, and cannot afford to run late. You do not want your child to be upset that they missed their ONLY rehearsal on this brand new stage. We also ask when you arrive early, please stay with your child and do not let them run wild in the waiting area. Our FABULOUS volunteers are not there to baby-sit and discipline excited kiddies! We DO NOT open the doors prior to the performance time (as we need all of the stage rehearsal time we can get!) Please make this clear to your guests. It does not help to have 300 people crowding the doors! If they arrive early, warn them that they WILL be waiting, and there are not enough seats available in the lobby to accommodate everyone. Word of advice: I would recommend that folks wait downstairs in the main lobby where there is MUCH more space. The beauty of the Swyer Theatre is that visibility is GREAT! So please don't worry about "bad" seats! The entire Performance will last between 1.5 - 3 hours for most classes. The reason we combine some of our classes for our Spring Performances is so that students can LEARN from watching the other performances, and so that our students have the opportunity to gain confidence and stage experience in front of a LARGE audience. Please plan to stay for the ENTIRE performance. We teach our students good audience etiquette, and leaving in the middle of a performance is simply not good etiquette. Imagine if it were YOUR child up there, ready to perform and half of the audience leaves. :( (If, due to a pre-existing conflict, you must leave early, please notify us ahead of time at [email protected] so we can make sure your child gets their trophy.) Immediately following the performance please plan to stay for our Trophy Ceremony (which lasts approx. 15 min.). The kids look forward to this even more than the actual performance! Teehee!
